Ca Phe Hong?
Khanh-Linh Dinh

Coffee has long become an indispensable part of the daily life of the Vietnamese. Coffee has woven its way into the hearts of the Vietnamese people, deeply and gently. The slightly bitter taste on the tip of the tongue, the sweet fragrance of a hot cup of coffee can be enchanting. Vietnamese people can enjoy coffee at any time–while working, resting, meeting friends, or during moments of solitude. Because of this, coffee can be found anywhere and at any time. In this way, coffee has made a significant contribution to the lives and work of everyone.

Coffee for the Vietnamese is also an invitation, a beginning of meetings. We often say to someone, "How about going for coffee sometime?" There, a simple sentence like that can open up deeper relationships. Hesitation in saying, "Let's go on a date," is transformed by the Vietnamese into "Ca Phe Hong?"–Let's go for coffee, which is more casual and much more familiar and comfortable.
